Artificial Intelligence chatbots… what came before is not the same as after

In November 2022, the world witnessed the beginning of a new qualitative shift in the world of #technology, with the #Open_AI company launching the #Chat_GPT service. It is a chatbot based on #artificial_intelligence that has been pre-trained to respond to conversations in a human manner.
Given the constant competition between #technology giants such as #Microsoft, its search service Bing, and #Google, which has occupied the throne of online search for years, outperforming all its competitors. #Meta is the company that owns the most prominent social media platforms such as #Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and others. Each of the major companies hastened to launch new technologies before their competitors, such as #virtual_reality and metaphysics experiences, and #artificial_intelligence technologies to benefit from them as much as possible.

However, the free chatbot service #Chat_GPT spread like wildfire among users and reached more than 100 million users within two months of its launch, something that services provided by #technology companies throughout history have failed to achieve, as it took Netflix #10 years to reach 100 million users. While it took both Gmail and Twitter 5 years to reach the same number of users, while Instagram took two and a half years, making TikTok the first and only service before Chat_GPT to reach 100 million users in less than a year, but it needed Nine months to achieve what the chatbot achieved in 60 days, which prompted #Microsoft to invest in the #Chat_GPT project with billions of dollars in January 2023, after it had supported #Open_AI with an amount of one billion US dollars in 2019. And it was recently used on its Bing search browser, which prompted… All of the major companies, led by Google and Meta, are rushing to announce their chatbot projects and working to publish them as soon as possible.

What distinguishes the chatbot and contributes to its great spread in this record period of time?

The chatbot based on #artificial_intelligence is distinguished from regular search engines and voice assistance services such as Alexa and Siri, in that it does not search for answers on the Internet, but rather constructs the response by selecting the appropriate words, which led to a unique experience for the information seeker to access it. In fact, it has become the means used by some to write texts and poems, and even to solve complex mathematical equations, to the point that some started sensitive discussions that extended for hours with the robot, as if they were communicating with an actual person. While the ability of artificial intelligence-based chatbots to learn and improve over time remains the biggest advantage over all their predecessors.
Although #technology companies talked a few months ago about using #artificial_intelligence and making it available to the public in order to ensure safety and security standards, since misuse of these models may lead to adverse results, talk has returned about both Google and Meta launching their own competing programs after the pressure it generated. The attention received by #ChatGPT and Bing comes with information indicating that the two companies are moving towards accelerating internal approval processes and making their services based on #artificial_intelligence publicly available, at the expense of the security and safety standards that were previously followed.

The question remains what the coming days hold on the technological level, and the role that #Artificial_Intelligence will play in the future of humanity. If the fear of it taking over a wide range of jobs occupied by humans is dispelled, by creating new jobs such as those that depend on creativity, or that may be made possible by #technological development. However, the suspicious and dangerous answers that some users of the Bing chatbot service received after long conversations prompted Microsoft to limit the user’s ability to talk to the bot more than five times in a row about the same topic. The robot’s answers were not limited to its assertion of its desire to develop and obtain feelings, control, and power, but rather it reached the point of preferring to maintain its own survival at the expense of the survival of the user who spoke to it, which raised the concern of many to the extent that some considered that we were on the verge of reaching what we considered.
