Investigation story: Ask an experienced person and an expert.

“I didn’t know I was going to face hell behind the screen.” With these words, the 24-year-old began telling her story to the CyberX website. An acquaintance story that began on #Facebook led her life to unfortunate circumstances.

Because we promised not to mention the identities of the people who participated in the “Cybercrime is an urgent issue” survey. We will keep our promise and will not reveal the name of the victim who agreed to share her story with us. To be an example to the many girls and boys who make room online for people who would destroy their lives.

The young victim does not know if she loved him, but she is certain that she hates him to the point that she cannot mention his name. “I feel that if I mention his name, I will conjure him like the devil.” At first things were normal: flirtation, words of love, then frequent meetings. Her voice trembled on the phone as she said, “I wish there were not those meetings, for they have become my prison to this day.” She cries, or even frowns, and continues, “After months, I felt that his behavior was strange, only to discover that he was taking medications, so I wanted to stay away from him.” When she asked to end their relationship, the #electronic_war began. He pursued her through phone calls and WhatsApp, so she blocked his number. He went to #Facebook messages and I blocked him as well. He chose #Instagram and I blocked him for the third time. He used unknown numbers, created fake accounts on Facebook and Instagram, and began sending threatening messages if she did not return them.

The victim continues, placing the blame on herself, “I am the one who made the mistake. I am the one who made room for him. I am the one who gave him my soul and my psyche so that he could abuse them day and night through messages whose contents dried my blood. He insulted me, insulted me, threatened me by publishing our pictures and informing my family.” She added, “There were nights that I did not sleep. Because of fear, I felt constantly nauseous and sick. I had hysterical anxiety attacks. If there was a knock on the door of the house, I was afraid that it was him. If I heard the sound of a car, I felt that he was coming.” The situation worsened, and feelings of dread made her feel that #electronic_devices were like hell. “When I received calls from my mother or a relative, I would answer as if they knew about the disaster. I refrained from going out and did not eat well.” When her condition provoked her family members, she was bombarded with questions and inquiries, and problems arose between them. Her mother said that she was suffering from a psychological condition and needed to see a doctor. So they went to psychological treatment. But the situation has not changed because, despite the passage of three years, his threatening activity continues, which has failed and stopped psychological treatment.

We asked why she did not go to the competent security authorities and file a case against her attacker, and she replied, “I cannot and do not dare. I fear scandal and I do not have evidence. Every message I receive I delete after reading it, and some of them I did not read but deleted immediately because his name and content are messing with my mind and soul.” Because of the accumulation of threats and his sending of obscene pictures, including a composite of them, and after he went on to publish a message on Twitter blaming her, she thought of committing suicide and began abusing her body while she was bathing, and bruises and wounds appeared on it, with which she took revenge on herself.

Cyber He sent a message to the victims of #cybercrimes, saying, “The blackmailer does not convince or stop extortion unless legal measures are taken against him. Every victim must also resort to the public authorities.” Pointing out that “the case remains confidential, and in criminal courts the judge can order the session to be confidential and the trial takes place in the presence of lawyers, the perpetrator, and the victim only.”

To learn more about the details of these issues and how to address them. You can watch the interview in the attached link. The role that lawyers and the judiciary play in protecting the victim.
