Harassment threatens pioneers of the Metaverse, and specialist in cyber concealment and technology Wayne Ronhar told CyberX: “Concepts of privacy will

American writer Neal Stevenson was the first to use the term #Metaverse in a science fiction novel in 1992. It consists of two parts. The first is Meta, which means “beyond,” and it is the name chosen by Mark Zuckerberg in the new name for Facebook. The second is verse, which means “the world.” Did we have the opportunity to experience life in the supernatural world after we became able to live in this virtual world and participate in its details by entering it in a three-dimensional form?

The user can now live an almost real experience, even if it is indirect, by seeing things around him in three dimensions by wearing virtual reality glasses. And feeling physical sensory effects through sensors in the jackets and gloves he wears.

After the spread of this new experience, many people rushed to it and began to hold their social events through it, and now the experience is close to becoming their full life.

But the #Metaverse is an integral part of #Technology and the Internet, that is, the platforms and means that have been accused of being one of the enhancers of harassment and the promotion of harassment and cybercrimes. Will the #Metaverse be a new means for criminals and harassers, in a manner closer to reality?

After users of #virtual_reality platforms raised warnings about #virtual_harassment and other offensive behaviour, in addition to the report submitted by the British doctor about being raped on the Horizon Worlds platform by four male avatars and their filming of the incident. According to Dr. Nina Jane Patel, “her physical and psychological reaction was closer to what happens in real life.”

Meta was quick to add a tool called “Personal Boundaries” with the aim of maintaining the boundaries of personal space within the game, by making the avatar’s hand disappear when it violates someone’s personal space. Anyone who feels threatened can activate a bubble around their avatar, in addition to continuing meta tests and explorations to help people feel comfortable and safe in #virtual_reality.

Wayne Ronhaar, a specialist in #cyber_stealth and technology  , told Cyber Ronhar questioned whether the measures taken by Meta were sufficient to protect its users or not, describing the Metaverse as “an iceberg of the unknown.”

The specialist pointed out that “just understanding harassment in a virtual environment may require us to expand traditional definitions and find new ways to create a safe virtual space for users in addition to traditional protective measures.”

In response to the question of whether societies have become vulnerable to greater and more dangerous cyber risks than we were previously accustomed to, Ronhar says, “Certainly, there are many risks that will be exacerbated by the #metaverse, such as identity theft, social engineering tricks, privacy violations, decentralized blockchain designs, dangers to children, and criminal practices.” The other,” explaining that “in the extreme case, notions of privacy will end and unwanted contact may become more intrusive using harassment methods that our legal systems and enforcement mechanisms cannot handle. The rise of virtual currencies is another challenge. There is a high potential for fraud and deception on the #Metaverse due to “This is mainly because it is easy for attackers to hide their true identities behind multiple identities, screens, and avatars. The biggest challenges are finding ways to motivate appropriate behaviors and reward positive interactions to ensure a safer digital future.”

Wayne Ronhar concludes, “The only way to protect ourselves from the dangers of the Internet in the metaverse is not to join it.”

Despite the facilities that the Metaverse provides to many people, the latest of which was the possibility of the father of a deceased groom to attend his son’s wedding day, the threats are constantly increasing. Is what is coming greater because of the Metaverse and continuous technologies?
